How To Become An Expert Even If You Are New To A Niche

The prevailing notion is that a degree from a ivy league school does it. Or decades slaving in a particular field will do it. Or maybe dozens of certifications and licences are necessary.

All lies. The only thing needed to be an expert or an authority is for one to I.L.T. And what is this I.L.T you might ask?

I.L.T stands for INVEST, LEARN, TEACH. This Simple method can be used to take a novice to subject matter expert in no time. The only caveat is that there is a lot of work ahead to legitimize the title and built respectability.

INVEST “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.” – Benjamin Franklin. An upfront investment in education is NECESSARY. There is no short cut to this. Whatever niche you endeavor to become “The Man” in, you must first find who is “The Man” in that niche. Once this is done purchase as much of their material as you can and study. There will be tons upon tons of books that need to be read (but not all of them). Countless online courses to buy (get a just a few). And lots of seminars to attend (a handful will do). If you’re thinking “man this sounds expensive”, you’re right. But it’s necessary if you want to be creditable. This investment is an investment in your development and financial future. The more you are willing to invest in your niche education, the greater potential for a larger ROI.

LEARNAlways walk through life as if you have something new to learn and you will.”~Vernon Howard. It is said that only 27.5% of all people who purchase a study course will ever complete the material. And of that 27.5%, only 25% of those people will implement what they have learned. Once the knowledge is gained insure you are using the information and not just hearing it. When you take notes try to do the following. Separate your  notes into two different categories:

1. What I will Implement.- Used only for you and your team on growth

2. What I will Teach.- Used only to help you create content to teach.

TEACH  “The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery.” ~Mark Van Doren. Now that you have invested and learned, it is time to teach. I’ve said earlier that you don’t have to read every book buy every course, or attend every seminar. But you have to complete a lot of them from the best people in that niche and here is why. When you teach, you already have learned some of the best methods and strategies to employ yourself. Now you have enough information to build well educated and relevant content. Content=Value, Value =Money. It’s that simple. The more content you create, the more valuable you become as a resource, and the more money your expertise commands. You teach by content creation. It makes no sense to learn and horde the knowledge. You are obligated to share the resource of your mind for the empowerment and enlightenment of others. The more value you can give through the content you make, the more people will KNOW, LIKE, and TRUST you which establishes you as an Expert.
